The Beginning of STONE CASTLES.
Eventually the Normans realized that they needed stronger castles and that was when they decided to make STONES CASTLES. The wooden defenses of MOTTE and Bailey castles were replaced by walls and towers of stone that were virtually indestructible. Stone castles were built taller and gave better protection against attack, fire and cold rainy weather.
How have stone castles improved over the years and why?
Motte and Bailey castles were replaced by stronger stone castles but even stone castles have been changed over the years.
